LadyDot Review: Every Now And Then

Rumba, The Great Glenn Gatsby and the girl with the golden voice. Glenn Gatsby & Sonia Elisheva – “Every Now And Then”

I really like the songs of Glenn Gatsby. This Norwegian artist has a great sense of rhythm, he can brilliantly combine oldschool sounds. Almost all of his tracks are on my playlist. And he likes to experiment with different music genres, which is something I really appreciate in electro swing artists.

When I found out that his latest song is a collaboration with Sonia Elisheva (yes, exactly, the same girl who hypnotizes us with her voice in “Golden Days” on the LVDS album), I already felt that something really good will come out of it. This time, however, it is not a typical electro swing. Instead, we get a downtempo and swing hop track with a little bit of soul and R&B. It’s so good!

“Every Now And Then” electrifies from the very beginning – thanks to an intriguing intro with a changing tempo. When I close my eyes and hear it, I see… a coffee commercial! I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because this melody stimulates me so perfectly and puts me in a good mood? Just like coffee! :)

I could say a lot about Sonia’s voice. It’s unique, amazing. She could be called the new Lily Allen and I’m sure that I’m not exaggerating when I write these words. There’s a lack of such characteristic vocals in contemporary music. What I love about her is that she modulates her voice brilliantly and builds a story perfectly, so I can listen to “Every Now And Then” for hours, over and over again.

I really like the trombone interludes, the syncopated rhythm, the sudden stops in the music and the fantastic elements played on the synthesizer. “Every Now And Then” sways me so much that if I could dance even a little bit, I would probably choose this track as background music for a rumba. Well, maybe I’ll stick to writing about music though – it’s better for you and my legs. :)

Bio – LadyDot

Anna (LadyDot) was born in ’94, but always felt she came from the Golden Twenties. “Polka” in Polish means “girl from Poland”, so she’s “Polka in polka dots”. She loves vintage style and spontaneous travels around Europe. But her greatest love (apart from her husband) is of course music, especially Electro Swing.

On her own Blog www.jawizeruk.pl she writes about various music genres. She is a copywriter, so writing is her strong point. Anna likes singing (not only in the shower!) and cooking (especially Italian and Hungarian cuisine).
