LadyDot Review: Lamuzgueule – Marshmallow
Time for Swingwave! Cosmic disco with vintage samples. Lamuzgueule – “Marshmallow”
I love French electronic music. It always gives me a lot of positive energy and gets me in the mood before a good party. I think I’ve had this sentiment since high school, when I was learning French. I am still captivated by its soft, subtle sound. Even more so in music! Lamuzgueule are undoubted pioneers of the Swingwave – no one mixes electro swing and synthwave like them! I present to you their new song – brilliant “Marshmallow”.
The syncopated rhythm we hear in “Marshmallow” totally makes me think of running – and it fits perfectly here! You’ll see for yourself when you watch the music video. After all, who among us wouldn’t rush to the first party after a pandemic?
And if we’re already on the subject of the music video, I must admit that it’s really great. At the beginning you will notice an interesting motif of tearing the film – everyone will surely understand this symbolism. After all, we all miss the concerts of our favorite bands! If you look closely, you’ll notice that the people invited to the party receive text messages hiding information about Lamuzgueule’s new album – name “Iceberg Club” and release date: October 29, 2021. I can’t wait! And you?
Déborah in her cosmic look looks like a million dollars and her slightly psychedelic voice reminds me a bit of Moloko. She and Romain make a perfect duo that complement each other perfectly – they are like yin and yang! I really like the fact that they sing in both English and French. This allows many people to understand their lyrics (myself included, haha!). What captivated me about this song is not only the fantastic electro swing vibe mixed with contrasting vocals – it’s also the brilliant instrumentation. The brass section consisting of saxophone and trumpet is incredibly balanced. Subtle melodies appear on average every dozen or so seconds and we don’t have the feeling that there are too many of them. And that’s the point! Also noteworthy is the dynamic funky bass and fantastic synths that make the disco go on and on!
I read somewhere that the version of the song “Gangsta’s Paradise” created by Lamuzgueule was played in space. And I think that “Marshmallow” should be added to this playlist very soon. And I’m sure it won’t be a space supernova that will expire after a few weeks. I will already make sure that “Marshmallow” won’t stop playing in my speakers! :)

Bio – LadyDot
Anna (LadyDot) was born in ’94, but always felt she came from the Golden Twenties. “Polka” in Polish means “girl from Poland”, so she’s “Polka in polka dots”. She loves vintage style and spontaneous travels around Europe. But her greatest love (apart from her husband) is of course music, especially Electro Swing.
On her own Blog www.jawizeruk.pl she writes about various music genres. She is a copywriter, so writing is her strong point. Anna likes singing (not only in the shower!) and cooking (especially Italian and Hungarian cuisine).
