Review: Jamie Berry – The Stampede (EP)

Jamie Berry is back with his 5-track EP “The Stampede”. This excellent collection of Electro Swing styles should have something for everyone’s taste.

“Who’s That?” is a Swing House track and our favorite on the EP, with a well-known classic vintage vocal sample and a funky influenced second part.

“Buffalo’s Ballroom” is brisk Neo Swing, but also with real vintage sound. It goes steeply towards “Comics” by Caravan Palace, but has rather a somewhat hard drum sound and also a wobble bass part with Jamie Berry’s typical signature.

“Cattywampus” can be settled in the Swing Hop area, but Jamie Berry will not be able to avoid the Glitch and Break influences. Here, too, artistic freedom applies!

“Parade” is a bit more experimental and difficult to categorize, rather Dark Swing with Dubstep parts and deep Hip Hop / EDM brass chord shots.

“The Stampede” shows uptempo G-Swing at it’s best. Typical for Jamie Berry that the glitchy drop comes later in this track, at the beginning it sounds like classic Electro Swing, Parov Stelar like from his earlier days.

All in all a very diversity and experimental EP that includes loads of styles and shows many facets of Jamie Berry and his producer skills. But there is no singing and hardly any vocals, just sampled snippets.

All tracks are well produced and very varied, perfect hybrid-vintage- music from various electronic epochs and corners. In terms of sound, Jamie Berry didn’t make a big step up, because he lacks the next level, which ties in with his old stuff and takes it one step further.

Despite the sound criticism on high level “The Stampede” is a super EP that shows how diverse Electro Swing can be and Jamie Berry keeps the common thread with the original Swing samples. There is no collaboration on this release and no songwriting with external musicians and singers like on his album “Light up the Night” from 2019. Just pure Jamie Berry!

Overall conclusion: We say well done Jamie, chapeau. Very good to have you back!
