Opera + Electro Swing – does it make sense? Betty Booom & DanyloM – “The Barber”

I’m sure you are already very familiar with DanyloM’s work. We love him for those fantastic Electro Swing interpretations of classical music. You have also heard Betty Booom’s songs many times. “Betty Boop” reminds us of good old swing, her rendition of “Puttin’ On the Ritz” with J Fitz still thrills me to this day, and the remix of “Swing in Spring” gets us perfectly in the mood for summer.

These two great artists have combined their powers and this time they decided to surprise us with a very interesting Electro Swing version… of an excerpt from the opera “The Barber of Seville” from the 19th century! I invite you to my review of “The Barber”. As usual, I have some interesting facts and a lot of conclusions that came to my mind when I heard this song for the first time.

Musical motifs that bring to mind… TV commercials!

Well, while we are on the subject of Gioacchino Rossini’s The Barber of Seville… The characteristic motif you hear at the very beginning of “The Barber” comes from this very opera. I’m sure many of you have already heard it. I learnt about it in music school, but I remember it much better… from TV commercials! Seriously.

By the way, I have an interesting fact for you: more and more often in Polish commercials I can hear… Electro Swing compositions! I don’t know if it’s a coincidence or the growing popularity of this music genre, but it makes me really happy. Imagine my face when I’m watching TV (and I don’t do it often enough) and suddenly I hear Electro Swing tunes in a commercial for frozen vegetables or a mobile phone network.

Some were definitely from music banks (of course I did my research!) and others must have been composed specifically for those particular ads. Funny, isn’t it?

But after I heard “The Barber ” by Betty Booom and DanyloM, fortunately a snippet of this opera will no longer be associated exclusively with commercials or chase scenes in movies. :)

Betty Booom and DanyloM – the perfect duet?

If you carefully watch the new releases of Electro Swing Thing (and I’m sure you do, haha! :)), then you surely know that this is not the first joint work of Betty Booom and DanyloM. At the end of March, “Kalyna” was released – a typically club-oriented song with an unobvious piano, the sound of which, surprisingly, fits here just perfectly! Unobvious solutions are the middle name of Betty Booom, who likes to mix for us something that doesn’t seem to fit together.

“The Barber” begins with that characteristic intro from “The Barber of Seville”, which I’ve mentioned before. However, after about 10 seconds we can hear something really great – a typically Electro Swing mix, consisting of, among others, strong bass in the background and a raging brass section.

I noticed right away that, thanks to such smooth transitions between electronic elements and wonderful piano sounds, both Betty Booom and DanyloM, in “The Barber ”, have the space to fully show off their skills, while giving the other person room to show off. It’s really great – when two excellent artists respect each other’s work, so that we can later play on our speakers such a great composition, which “The Barber ” undoubtedly is! :)
